Houghton stays at new-look Hooper Yamaha

The Rob Hooper Racing Yamaha team has re-signed MX1 racer Ryan Houghton for 2019, and are currently looking for a second rider to replace Kristian Whatley who is to race two-strokes.

Houghton’s inclusion in the team this year turned into a massive success story, with the rider having his best ever Pro season, including the 23-year-old’s first ever Pro overall at Hawkstone in the Bridgestone British Masters.  The Essex based rider also landed two overall podiums, with 2nd in the Bridgestone British Masters, 3rd in the Michelin MX Nationals and a6th in a talent packed British Maxxis Motocross Championships.

Team Boss Rob Hooper said: “After such a fantastic 2018, there was only one rider we wanted to lead the team next year and that was Ryan. The lad just never gives up, and works so hard on and off the track.  2019 is going to be a big year for him and the team if he continues that progression and we are sure he will.”

Houghton was also positive about his return saying “Being back with RHR was always my first priority. The support Rob and the team have given me has been second to none, and it has built my confidence and in turn my results no end. The experience and knowledge Rob has is invaluable, and has really helped me to progress my career. For 2019 we know what we are starting with and that’s the first time that has happened for me in a number of years, and I will be looking to build on my strong finish to last year and be at that speed or quicker from the start.”

While the team has many of the same sponsors for 2019, the look will be changing with the announcement that they will be supported and wearing the FXR brand of Racewear for the forthcoming season.

Hooper said: “It is really exciting to be working with FXR. They have so much ambition and passion, and are really behind the team. They are using us to showcase their fantastic range of products, and it is a real partnership, and one which I am sure will flourish for both parties.”

The team still have one place remaining, but won’t be rushed into making a signing. They are still taking applications both in MX1 and MX2. Interested riders can email Kieran@robhooperracing.com
