Hurt Cairoli will race on Sunday

Nine-times world champ Tony Cairoli has not broken or torn ligaments in his knee following his over-the-bars crash in Switzerland at the weekend, and says he plans to ride at Sunday’s Bulgarian GP in a bid to keep his title hopes alive. But he has stretched one ligament so will not be able to ride this week in the run ip to the race at Sevlievo.

Following medical checks on Monday, he said: “Knee update: Good news, nothing is broken and I will be riding next weekend in Bulgaria. Stretched PCL with fluid between the joint, some days of rest and we will be ready to race again.”

Jeffrey Herlings increased his margin at the top of MXGP from 36 points to 58 over teammate Tony Cairoli  at the Swiss race as the Dutchman took yet another double win.
