MX Nationals change schedule over British date clash

Riders who contest the Revo British championship round at Foxhill on June 19 will be able to race day two of the rival MX Nationals at Hawkstone Park on June 20, as the two-day series has altered its plan to allow one-day riders in.

The issue came when the Revo series announced it would race on June 19 to avoid a clash with the Russian GP this weekend. Many had expected the MXGP to be cancelled, but it’s going ahead.

So Revo series organisers RHL moved the Foxhill event to a Saturday, June 19, to allow riders to race on Sunday at Hawkstone – even though MX Nationals bosses weren’t in favour of the plan. MX Nationals are now full two-day events, with points-paying races on both days. But it also would mean any rider had to qualify on Saturday, so ruling out any Sunday-only entries. The has now changes, with MX Nationals boss Paul Irwin running a qualifying practice on the Sunday morning to allow riders who raced at Foxhill the chance to do one day of his series. Of course, they will miss the points on Saturday.

“As most of you know there is a clash of championships on the 19th/20th June between the MX Nationals and the Revo ACU championship,” said MX Nationals head Irwin.

“Although this is far from ideal and certainly not something the MX Nationals wanted, it is not possible to change, so we must deal with the challenge ahead. Firstly, it is great to see the support we have in the paddock with many riders booking in for both days at Hawkstone.

“In an effort to make this situation work for as many riders as we can, we will try and accommodate those riders attending Foxhill on the Saturday and where possible allow them to ride on the Sunday only.

“They will obviously lose championship points from not attending Saturday’s racing, but we will make it so that all riders re-qualify on Sunday. The schedule for the weekend will be almost identical to round one apart from a Sunday morning ten minute timed session for grid positions in all classes. There will be no sighting laps then before race one on Sunday. This is an impossible situation so please work with us.”
