New Bulgarian GP clashes with Maxxis

The GPs are to return to Bulgaria this year, with the former GP track at Sevlievo now added to the calendar on August 25-26, but it clashes with the Maxxis British championship at Hawkstone Park. The Maxxis dates are always set after the GP calendar has been revealed, so this last-minute change to add a 20th MXGP round this year is a blow and may mean the Maxxis series is altered. But with the UK calendar already packed with other championships and festivals, it may mean quite a large re-shuffle. And GP teams are unlikely to welcome an additional round to the series in Eastern Europe due to the additional costs.

As well as GP riders like Graeme Irwin,  Tommy Searle and Conrad Mewse riding, the Bulgarian GP also has EMX250 and 300 rounds which are contested by top British riders like Bran Anderson, James Dunn and the Revo team including Martin Barr and Mel Pocock.

Last visited in 2014 for a GP, the Sevlievo circuit us a natural terrain circuit and has seen the World Championship 12 times since 2002. TM Racing’s Max Nagl, Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Racing’s Clement Desalle, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings, and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin have all won in Bulgaria with Cairoli, Herlings, and Paulin having done so twice.
