‘On Any Sunday’ film director dies

American Bruce Brown, the filmmaker behind the classic 1971 motorcycle film On Any Sunday as well as surfing epic The Endless Summer, died at the weekend at age 80.

The Californian persuaded Hollywood star and bike racer Steve McQueen to fund the film, and he also starred in it alongside Malcolm Smith, and even a very young Jeff Ward. The film also starred dirt track racing and enduro and it received a nomination for Best Documentary in the 1972 Academy Awards. It is the film that help make off-road bikes a mainstream hobby in the USA and is often cited as a huge inspiration for many of top racers to start their careers.
