Dutch duo dominate Lyng British opener

Jeffrey Herlings took the MX1 honours while fellow Dutchman Cas Valk claimed the MX2 overall in the wet and muddy British championship opener at Lyng. But they didn’t have it easy.

Mewse won race 1

In the MX1 class, Conrad Mewse took the holeshot and led every lap of the first moto. Herlings was snapping at his heels in second place, but the Brit held his nerve to take the win in a super-close finish. In the second moto, Herlings led from Mewse and pulled away while the Honda rider came home a distant second for second overall.

Gilbert took third overall

Josh Gilbert took third overall despite some less-than-ideal starts. In the opener he pulled through to fourth, behind Jason Meara. Brad Todd took fifth from Sam Nunn, Martin Barr and Carlton Husband. Second time out Gilbert took third to cement his place on the podium, from Todd, barr. Meara and Tristan Purdon.

Herlings took the overall

In the MX2 class, Valk took the overall with a second then a win after blitzing qualifying. In the opener, American GP ace Jack Chambers took a start-to-finish win while Valk hit problems. He was second then crashed and then stalled the bike. He said it took around 20 seconds to get it started, and he made a charge through to second. Tommy Searle took third after stealing the place from Jake Nicholls on the penultimate corner. Nicholls had been second with two laps to go until Valk and then Searle came by.

Chambers took MX2 race one

Dylan Walsh took fifth from Joel Rizzi, Taylor Hammal and Charleie Heyman while Billy Askew, Steven Clarke, Joe Brookes and Elliott Banks-Browne all failed to get to the finish in the tough conditions.

Valk won the MX2 overall

In the second race Valk took a couple of laps to demote Rizzi and Heyman at the front of the pack. While Heyman went out, Rizzi held on for second from Chambers, Searle, Brookes, Walsh and Ben Mustoe. That gave Valk the overall win from Chambers and Searle.

Nicholls had a DNF in race two

Former British champ Brad Anderson was perfect in the vets class to take a double win from Aston Bird and Steve Bixby. In the combined youth class, Jamie Keith took the 125 overall from Josh Vail and Charlie Richmond. Reece jones topped the 250s from Harrison Greenough and Tyla Hooley.
