Tom Murphy will stand in for Josh Gilbert, starting at Sunday’s Lyng British championship round. Gilbert’s shoulder injury at Preston Docks was worse than first thought and he had surgery last week to fix things and. The team owners decided to opt for a fill-in rider during this period, Apico MX1 Championship rider Murphy to the team. Essex-based Murphy has been an Apico-supported rider for many years, and after showing some promise, Tom has welcomed the opportunity and will join the team at Lyng for the 3rd round of the Motul British Motocross Championship. Team owner Dylan Brown said: “After learning more about Josh’s prognosis, we had to accept it wasn’t feasible to continue riding with his injury. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him back with us towards the end of the season, once he’s had a chance to heal and rebuild his strength in his shoulder. Tom Murphy has been part of the Apico family for several years, and with him riding a Honda CRF450 2026 already this season, Anna and I decided to offer him the chance to fill in whilst Josh is recovering, and he was happy to accept the offer.
