As the sun went down on the first day of racing at round two of the Michelin MX Nationals and spectators and competitors retreated to the paddock and their BBQ’s the new track layout at Preston Docks was voted to be a winner giving riders load more overtaking opportunities, writes Dick Law.
Richard Bird lead the way in the expert MX1’s with two wins from his two starts as Ryan Crowder chased him over the finish line on each occasion and James Lassu third.
Things were tight at the top of the expert MX2’s with just a single point separating race two winner from Tom Grimshaw with race one winner Rossi Beard third, just five points behind.
It was the same in the clubman MX1’s as Aiden Christie with a win and a second place was in the overall lead from race two winner Jamie McCarthy with Gay Prince third.
Lewis Parkinson was in control of the clubman MX2’s by winning both races as Fabio Rizzi notched up two seconds and the pair start day two ten points clear of third place man Harry Foster.
It was difficult to separate the top three in the MXY2’s but with a win and a second place Cullum Green will be in the lead come the start of day two. Aaron-Lee Hanson is just two points behind Green, with Josh Peters three points behind him in third.
Jack Grayson and Ryan Mawhinney tied on points at the top of the big wheel 85’s sharing a win and second place each with Buster Hart third.
In the small wheel part of the race Bailey Johnston won both races from Arai Elock and Boston Gilbert.
With the pro riders taking to the tomorrow and the weather looking as if it’s going to be as nice as it was today it’s going to be a good day for motocross.
