The 2018 World Enduro Super Series gets underway at Extreme XL Lagares in Portugal from May 11-13 with the first ever round of the new mixed-discipline format.

Here is all you need to know:

– The 14th edition of Extreme XL Lagares will mix EnduroCross, Urban and Hard Enduro motorbike action as the search begins for this year’s ULTIMATE ENDURO CHAMPION.

– 254 competitors from 18 countries will take to the start line in the Penafiel region of Portugal for three days of enduro racing over slippery and rocky terrain.

– South African Wade Young will be looking to defend his 2017 crown for Sherco Factory Racing from his rivals including last year’s runner-up Jonny Walker of Britain.

– Walker’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team-mates Josep Garcia (Spain) and Nathan Watson (Britain) will also feature as will the returning Taddy Blazusiak (Poland) and Cody Webb (USA).

– Elsewhere, three-time Portugal winner Graham Jarvis leads Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s hopes for victory alongside British compatriot Billy Bolt.

– 47 Pro riders from 13 nations will start the first 2018 round with Spain’s Mario Roman, Travis Teasdale (South Africa) and home hope Diogo Vieira also out to impress.

– Racing begins Friday with Endurocross in Quintandona, then Urban on Saturday as riders take to world heritage city Porto’s narrow, cobbled streets before Sunday’s Hard Enduro back in Quintandona.
