Challenging time at wet Duns for Apico Husqvarna

Sunday’s round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship saw Matt Burrows and the Apico Husqvarna team head to Duns in the Scottish Borders. The track was it good when the teams arrived but with heavy rain forecast it was due to be a tough weekend.

During the recent weeks Matt had been working hard to make improvements in his riding and was looking forward to getting out on track. The morning practice and qualifying session took place in dry conditions and the track was producing a number of deep ruts. After posting a number of laps Matt finished the session 20th fastest with the times very close.

During the lunch break and the opening MX2 race the rain started to come down and was making the conditions tougher. When it was time for the first MX1 race the track was in good condition considering the rain but a start was going to be key. When the gate dropped Matt was inside the top 20 and started to get into a rhythm and was picking riders off as he progressed forward. As the race continued Matt was still riding well and worked his way up to 14th at the flag for a positive result.

With the rain continuing during the afternoon and getting worse prior to the final MX1 race the tough but correct decision to cancel the final race was made on safety grounds. With just one result, Matt finished 14th overall and is 22nd in the Championship standings.

Sean Burrows – Team Manager: The last couple of weeks Matt and the team have been working on improving the set up. His riding has been improving and we were looking forward to a positive weekend. Overall the qualifying and race 1 results show we have made the right steps. It’s a shame the second race was cancelled due to the rain but it was the correct call.

Matt Burrows: The last few weeks we made massive steps and it showed in in my riding this weekend. 14th place in Race 1 was very positive and the organisers made the correct decision of cancelling the second race and I’m now excited for Hawkstone.
