The second of the four-round Ecosse XC Rock Oil Winter Series returns to the deep sandy track of Dunbar on the south-east coast of Scotland on Sunday the 7th of January. The opening round, sponsored by Drysdale Motorcycles, Rock Oil and Wulfsport was hailed a great success by the assembled 200 riders contesting the adult and youth solo and quad classes. There was a big thumbs-up for the stubble field ‘old-school motocross’ style of track and the organisers were commended for the flawless running of the event.
Each of the four adult classes – A, B, C and Vets – were well supported, with the B group proving most popular, welcoming an impressive 38 competitors to the start line. Going in to round two, 28-year-old Carlton Husband, one of a posse of riders that travelled up from Newcastle, cleaned up in the A class with a trio of wins and said the event was as good as any in Europe. He leads with 135 points, nine ahead of Jay Hague, with Nathan Claugan in third on 122. The B class is led by Robin Bertram on 132 points, with just one point separating second and third placed Paul Benham and Steven Lennie. John Lamont leads the C’s with 129 points and in the Vets, Scott Murray scored a full-house with 135 points.
The youth classes cater for 65cc, 85cc SW/BW and Youth Rookies and, after the first round, the 65cc points table is pretty tight at the top, with Ryan Waggott – a member of the Newcastle crew – leading on 130 points ahead of Graham Haddon on 129 and Conner Smith on 122. Ollie Colmer – also from Newcastle – blitzed the opposition in the SW85 category and with 135 points, leads Jay Cheel on 124 and Jack Fletcher on 120. The BW85 class sees Sam Atkinson at the top with a tally of 135, followed by Ayden Smith on 126 and Logan Ferguson on 111. The Rookies, who rode with the Vets, but 10 seconds back, proved to be super-quick and Gregor Campbell takes the advantage into the second round with 130 points, whilst Dominic Stevenson is on 125 and Ewan Kormack on 124.
Signing on for the second round opens on Saturday the 6th of January from 2pm and again from 7am the following day. The action-packed programme will again get underway with practice on the dot of 8.30am.
