Gajser beats Cairoli then crashes

Former world champ Tim Gajser inflicted the first moto defeat of the year over Tony Cairoli in opening MX1 race in the final round of the Italian championship at Mantova after the home hero got a bad start and could only get back to third.

Gajser held off a challenge from Romain Febvre while third was still enough to give the KTM man the MX1 championship crown.

Then in the combined superfinal, Gajser crashed hard while chasing Cairoli who romped to victory to take the overall championship win. KTM’s Max Nagl took second Jorge Prado with Gajser fourth. Febvre went down in the first corner and retired.

In the MX2 opener, Prado again was dominant from after overtaking Brian Moreau. In the Superfinal Prado again was top MX2 man but only after getting past Tom Vialle.
