Revamp for South West MX series

Motocross in the South West of the country is due a boost in 2019 when a team led by Robin Griffith will revive the South West Masters of Motocross with a five round series using the top tracks in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and possibly Dorset.

The South West Masters was the highlight of Motocross in the 80s which paved the way for the Remedies Bar and more recently, the Premier series which the respected Griffith was one of the key organisers up until 2015.

The emphasis will be on using well prepared tracks to ensure a full day’s racing takes place with slick organisation, professionally run events whilst remembering that fun is the aim for all riders taking part.

He will enlist the help of other key helpers from the previous series to ensure a seamless transition.  His extensive knowledge of Motocross in the area is invaluable to such a project and following a recent meeting with key stakeholders the decision was made.

Robin Griffith, “I have been asked many times to get involved in the series since we passed it on in 2015, but to be honest running an eight or ten round series is very time consuming and I needed a break. By just running an initial five rounds in 2019, with such an experienced team around me will be less pressure, but the aim is on quality rather than quantity to ensure the riders get value for money.

The format will include an Elite Class which will include Experts and selected Junior riders whilst the bulk of the entry will be made up from Clubmen and Juniors who will also be eligible for South West Masters points. In addition, a joint Veterans and Evo class will feature to give older riders – and some machines – a platform to display their skills and machines in a competitive but friendly environment.

A new website will be released in October with full details of events and dates.
