Musquin Masters Straight Rhythm

Marvin Musquin defeated his KTM team-mate Ryan Dungey to take victory in the 450 class of the Red Bull Straight Rhythm under the floodlights in California. And fellow KTM ace Shane McElrath took the 250 class in the knockout event that was decided over three runs down the half-mile straight.

Musquin beat Dungey in the first two races to be declared the overall 450 class victor. Musquin also won the event last time he rode there in 2014.

The battle for third came down to Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen and new KTM signing Trey Canard . Both scored a win each, so it came down to a deciding final run. Hansen edged out the KTM man to take the final podium place.

The 250 class was a clean sweep of TLD Red Bull KTMs, with McElrath beating Mitchell Oldenburg in the opening two runs. KTM’s Jordan Smith went head-to-head with Josh Hill on the electric Alta, making the semi final of a major national level motocross event for the first time.

Smith took two race wins over Hill, for third overall. Supergoon rider Ronnie Mac, mounted on a 1998 Honda CR250, did some demo races against fellow prankster Trevor Piranha. But Ronnie Mac also qualified for the main events, but didn’t make it past the quarter finals as he lost out to Jordon Smith.
