Briton Kurt Nicoll claimed the Over-50 world vets title in Glen Helen at the weekend with two dominant race wins. It made up for the disappointment of finishing second in the over-40 class with a pair of runner-up place finishes to Kiwi Daryl Hurley.
Eight-times British champ Nicoll, 52, made mincemeat of the field in the over-50 race as his usual main rival, former AMA supercross pro Doug Dubach, didn’t race as he was ill. In the over 40s, British ex-GP rider Brian Wheeler took seventh overall. Ex-AMA champ Ron Lechien was 11th.
In the over-30 class, KTM test rider Mike Sleeter and ex-British champion Josh Coppins had a win and a second place each, but the nod went to Sleeter who won moot two. Former AMA 250 Supercross champ Travis Preston was third.
In the over-70 class, the double race winner was Jim O’Neal – the man behind the iconic clothing brand. And in the over 60s, former Motocross of Nations winner Chuck Sun was third.
