Mewse podium in MX2 qualifier

Briton Conrad Mewse took a fine third place in the qualifying race for the Assen MX2 GP, behind winner Thomas Covington and Thomas Kjer-Olsen in a clean sweep for the Rockstar Husky squad.

On a wet and muddy track, Mewse gated outside the top ten but pulled through to third. Ben Watson was 10th as series leader Pauls Jonass crashed and finished 19th.

In the MXGP race, Jeffrey Herlings easily won after passing early leader Tim Gajser. Tony Cairoli fell and struggled to get going again, finishing 10th in front of Max Anstie and Tommy Searle. Shaun Simpson was 28th.

In the Vets opener, Briton Phil Mercer was fifth as Martin Zerava won and Nancy Van Der Ven won the women’s opening race from Larissa Papenmaier and Livia Lancelot.
